A step goal doesn't affect you.

The idea is simple. The real question is how to regularly create space for going outside.

Are you thinking about getting a real dog? With your virtual walks, you can see how well regular walks fit into your daily routine – even in the morning or after a long day.
This is a first glimpse into part of the responsibility. A real dog also needs care, training, affection, and financial security.
No suitability test and only a brief recommendation for acquiring a dog. The app only depicts a small part of life with a dog.

It feels a bit strange going for a walk with "Kai Uwe" in the morning when you only encounter people with "real" dogs. But suddenly you're part of the dog community.

GOOD TO KNOW
How does Walk the Dog work?
You choose a virtual dog, give it a name, and set walking times. Then you start your walk and go outside yourself. The app records your walks and your progress together.

No. Your companion lives in the app. The walks take place in your real everyday life – you can also go out without your own dog.
Is this a fitness app?
The focus is on regular walks and your virtual dog. The app displays movement data, but emphasizes care and shared time rather than athletic comparisons.
Does the app show me if I'm ready for a real dog?
You can better assess how regular walks fit into your daily routine. This doesn't replace a comprehensive decision: A real dog also needs training, grooming, money, care, and long-term attention. The app doesn't provide a suitability assessment.
What happens if I skip a day?
Missed walks will affect your virtual dog's care status. If you have credits, you can hire a dog sitter. After five consecutive days without care, the animal welfare consequence takes effect: the virtual dog is archived and can no longer be actively cared for.
Are location or movement data used?
The documented app version stores data locally on the device. Location access is required for route tracking. Apple Health is only used to read and write movement data after you have given your consent. The final privacy policy for the released version will be added before launch.
Who is the app suitable for?
For people who want to walk their dogs more regularly for a personal reason. Choose a profile that fits your daily routine: easy, medium, or long. The current virtual daily goals range from 50 to 120 minutes, depending on the dog; these are not recommendations for keeping real dogs.
Are there reminders and daily goals?
Yes. Each virtual dog has a breed-specific daily goal. You set your walking times and can allow local reminders. A reminder can also be postponed by 15 minutes.
